Recurring Competitions

Introduction

Create a new competition using a previous one as a template. Simply select a previous competition, enter a new date for the first service period and the system will automatically calculate all other time periods. This template can then be downloaded with all previous competition data retained, such as voltages, need type and product type, ready for re-upload and creating a new competition.

How to repeat a competition

To generate a new template from a previous competition, follow these steps:

  1. In your dashboard, navigate to Manage > Competitions > Repeat Competitions
  2. Click on ‘Select competition’ and select a competition from the table of past competitions

  3. Input the new competition's first Service Period start date to define when the competition is repeated. All the other dates will be adjusted automatically, based on the timings of the competition referenced.
  4. Input a unique competition reference into the ‘new competition reference’ field. The competition reference will auto-populate into the competition reference column (c) of the competition file within the competitions tab
  5. Click on 'Generate Template'
  6. Copy and paste that competition reference into the "Competition Boundaries" sheet (column C) and the "Service Windows" sheet (column C).
  7. The file is now ready for upload. You can upload it in the designated section in Manage > Competitions. The new competition should be successfully created.

Working Example

This feature is particularly useful for regular competitions repeated on a daily/weekly basis. For example - if you run a daily competition on Monday that looked like this:

Monday

Qualification Open - 2 Jan 2023 - 09:00

Qualification Close - 2 Jan 2023 - 10:00

Bidding Open - 2 Jan 2023 - 10:01

Bidding Close - 2 Jan 2023 - 12:00

Service Period Start - 2 Jan 2023

And then you selected that competition and input the new first Service Period open date as 3 Jan 2023, it’d generate a competition template that looked like this:

Tuesday

Qualification Open - 3 Jan 2023 - 09:00

Qualification Close - 3 Jan 2023 - 10:00

Bidding Open - 3 Jan 2023 - 10:01

Bidding Close - 3 Jan 2023 - 12:00

Service Period Start - 3 Jan 2023

Troubleshooting for errors

If you can’t see the new competition it may be for one of two reasons:

  1. You may receive a “No data found in the Competition Boundaries sheet.” error when you upload your new competition file. This is because we only support Areas copying from the competition. To fix this you’ll need to
  • Open the new competition template
  • Navigate to the Competition Boundaries tab
  • Enter your new competition reference and a form of locational information i.e. bounding box or list of previously uploaded areas
  1. The dates you entered from your first service period mean that your other competition’s dates are actually in the past. Recheck your competition dates and try to upload again.
